Ode to the Wife

I never claimed to have settled, only to have settled down

I captured a Queen so that this King could comfortably claim his crown

I placed her on a pedastel far beyond all the rest

picture perfect perfection is what her position suggests

Had me on bended knee like one of them boys from Philly

funny how the skeptics kept calling our connection silly

same doubters now around us are amazed and they wonder

how we stayed going so strong and kept from going under

peers are peeping at us in pursuit of the passion we found in paradise

lovestruck so it seems it left us both paralyzed

stuck in a moment hoping to never escape

they brush it off as luck but I consider it fate

my rib, my helpmate, my bride, and more

the one I admire and simply adore

they constantly ask me "what's the best thing that ever happened to you?"

my response time and time again is "the day that she replied I do"
